| Resumen: | "Dombey and Son' is an old-fashioned family frim in a setting which is, for Dickens, unusually close to the time of writing. He relates the main turns of the action to the railways which were then giving a decisive stimulus to the economy. Through such changes the firm drifts, apparently unconcerned, until it meets with calamity: Dombey loses his heir, Paul; in hopes of another son, he makes a second marriage, socially ambitious but disastrous; then his establishment is menaced by the financial and social depredations of the firm's manager. |
