'Gentlemen,' he says, 'pardon the interruption, and excuse me for coming in, but,' he says, 'do I understand you are speaking of a great eater who lives in your fair city?'
Well, these Boston characters all gaze at Horsey in such a hostile manner that I am expecting any one of them to get up and request him to let them miss him, but he keeps on bowing and smiling, and they can see that he is a gentleman, and finally one of them says:
'Yes,' he says, 'we are speaking of a character by the name of Joel Duffle. He is without doubt the greatest eater alive. He just wins a unique deal. He bets a character from Bangor, Me, that he can eat a whole window display of oysters in this very restaurant, and he not only eats all the oysters but he then wishes to bet that he can also eat the shells, but,' he says, 'it seems that the character from Bangor, Me, unfortunately faints on the first proposal and has nothing with which to bet on the second.'

Dimensiones: 18 cm ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-0-00-370076-3 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Clasificación: :Inglés:Literatura:Lecturas Adaptadas:Sin Audio:B2 Etiquetas: animales biólogos biología elefantes zoología realidad datos estudio ciencia adaptadas real B2- 2000 Resumen: Iain Douglas-Hamilton was living and working in a large park in East Africa. Four hundred and fifty elephants lived there too. For five years, he studied their behaviour, their movements, their eating habits, their family groups. He measured them, flew over them, tracked them by radio and watched them through binoculars. After a time it was clear that elephants are very like people: they have personalities all their own.
This is not just the first scientific study of wild elephants -it is also a powerful and interesting story. The beautiful photographs are by Oria Douglas-Hamilton.Nota de contenido: 2000 headwords Among the Elephants [texto impreso] / Iain Douglas-Hamilton, Autor ; Oria Douglas-Hamilton, Autor ; Lewis Jones, Adaptador . - 1ª . - Glasgow (G4 0NB, United Kingdom) : William Collins Sons and Co Ltd, 1977 . - 112 p : il. b/n. ; 18 cm. - (Collins Graded Reader) .

These stories paint colourful pictures of life in Britain and America in the past. In them we meet some unusual people, such as the old countryman who falls asleep in a grave and the dreamy boy who wakes up one day to find a bird making a nest in his hair.
There are funny stories about the tricks people play, and frightening ones about strange experiences. There is the man who tries to catch a ghost, and the child who grows to depend on his rocking horse, not for pleasure but for information.

"Get out of it!" Garry shouted at us. "Run you fool! Run for your lives!"
I heard Garry say: "My God-we've struck it!" Then I was down the ladder and jumping to the ground, running blindly, not knowing what to expect, following the flying figures of my companions. The ground became soft. Water splashed in my face, and I stopped, thinking I had reached the stream. The others had stopped too. They were standing looking back at the rig.
As we watched, the rig tipped over and crashed to the ground. The engine, suddenly freed of its load, raced madly. And then, in the bright moounlight, we watched the pipe, pushed up from the ground, turning and twisting upwards like a great snake. Then, with a roar like a hundred railway trains, it was blown clear.
I'd been too astonished and confused to think what had happened. I still couldn't believe it. "You mean we've struck oil?"
