Four hundred and fifty elephants lived there too. For five years, he studied their behaviour, their movements, their eating habits, their family groups. He measured them, flew over them, tracked them by radio and watched them through binoculars. After a time it was clear that elephants are very like people: they have personalities all their own.
This is not just the first scientific study of wild elephants -it is also a powerful and interesting story. The beautiful photographs are by Oria Douglas-Hamilton.Nota de contenido: 2000 headwords Among the Elephants [texto impreso] / Iain Douglas-Hamilton, Autor ; Oria Douglas-Hamilton, Autor ; Lewis Jones, Adaptador . - 1ª . - Glasgow (G4 0NB, United Kingdom) : William Collins Sons and Co Ltd, 1977 . - 112 p : il. b/n. ; 18 cm. - (Collins Graded Reader) .

"When the birds called, and sunlight lit the valley once more, I saw the tiger that I had killed.
Even today the scene is as fresh as that morning. And the open eyes of that tiger have stayed in my mind all my life.
I have never repeated that murder. And to get over my guilt, I have given my life's work to the tiger."
